Sarees are not only for girls

Naveen was starring at his while walk back home.

Hey, why are you starring at me? Are you angry? Asked his mom, Rupa

Yes a little, you treated Neha (his aunt's daughter) very different today. Both you and aunt are pampering her and you forget about me, said Raghu

Rupa laughed and said

She wore her first saree today. If you were a girl, you would have worn a saree then I would have pampered even more, said his mom

They reached home, while Rupa went to kitchen to make food. Raghu went to his room.

After a while

So how do I look, asked Raghu

When Rupa saw him, she burst into laugh.

I don't have to be a girl to wear a saree, do I? Asked Raghu

His mom smiled and draped the saree properly.

Then she thought,  he is right, he doesn't have to be a girl to wear a saree.

Raghu has so many doubts about the saree, Rupa explained him everything and she started to enjoy it.

It's just a beginning.

Now it's been 2 years,

Mom, how do I look? Asked Raghu

How many times, I have told you to wear bangles and anklets, when you wear a saree, said Rupa

Raghu felt wearing bangles and ankles made him more girlier. Rupa pushed him to his room to wear him matching bangles and anklets.

Rupa smiled and thought, they have come a long way in the past 2 years. The only disappointment she has is, Raghu decided not to grow his hair even longer. But you can't change mothers, they always wants their daughters to have very long hair.

Note - It's a sequel to BY NEXT DIWALI story.  For the next few months Jaya noticed Kumari and Sudhakar going out in matching sarees and having fun together.  What surprised Jaya is that somehow Kumari convinced Sudhakar to get his nose pierced. Sudhakar looked so beautiful with a nose stub.  After few more days, Kumari and Sudhakar moved to a different location because of Kumari's job.  As Jaya was working in the kitchen, she heard the sound of the door bell. She opened the door and saw a woman standing before her with a pleasant smile.  "Hi, I am Rupa. We just moved here", said Rupa pointing to a house, where Kumari and Sudhakar used to live.  Jaya greeted her back with a smile and invited her into the house.  "We ran out of gas, so If you don't mind, can you lend me gas cylinder? ", said Rupa "Even I don't have extra cylinder ", said Jaya Rupa was little disappointed.  "Just give me a sec", said Jaya and called someone.  After ...

The day before Diwali, as expected Sumanth was shaving his beard. As he was fully concentrated, he didn't notice Neha standing near him. Just when he was shaving near the mustache, Neha pulled his hand a little. She immediately said sorry but the damage is already done.  When Sumanth looked in the mirror, he was stunned, half of his mustache is gone. He got really angry on Neha.  Neha acted like she was really sorry. With no choice, Sumanth shaved his face.  After shaving his face was burning.  Sumanth, I am really sorry. Here take this, this will help your after shave burns, said Neha.  Sumanth thought, Neha didn't do it voluntarily, so he forgave her.  What is it? Asked Sumanth taking a cream given by Neha Just apply it to your face and shave again, said Neha  Sumanth did like Neha told him. When he saw his face in the mirror, he was stunned. There is no trace of facial hair. It's so smooth.  Sumanth was annoyed of Neha.  When Radha a...

By next Diwali

Kumari went to her new neighbors home with a box of sweets as a Diwali gift.  As Kumari rang the door bell, Jaya opened the door and welcomed Kumari inside with a smile.  As they were talking about few things,  "I saw your daughter drawing a rangoli in the morning. You have raised her very well, the she handled her saree and drew the rangoli is very skillful", said Kumari praising Jaya's daughter.  "Thank you but actually she is not daughter biologically. She is actually my son", said Jaya Kumari laughed listening to it, thinking Jaya is joking, then Kumari realised Jaya is not saying it as a joke, she is serious.  Jaya understood it's very difficult for Kumari to believe it.  "See, during lock down for fun I dressed my son in my saree and he turned out to be very beautiful in the saree. So the entire lock down I insisted him to wear sarees, at first he was reluctant but slowly he got used to it", said Jaya with pride.  Listening to it Kumari was s...
