Husband's love

 Doctor, patient Anjali has woken up from coma, informed the nurse to the doctors. 

Listening to the good news Anjali's mom, Rupa and Anjali's mother in law Rekha and sister in law, Neha were in tears of joy. 

As the doctors were checking Anjali. Anjali was looking for her husband. 

Mom, where is Varun? Asked Anjali

She was sad that she couldn't see her husband yet. 

I have called him, he is on the way, said Neha

Within half hour, Anjali saw a woman entering the room. The woman was looking at Anjali with so much love. Anjali can see it but Anjali doesn't that woman. Neha observed Anjali and Neha is sure that no way Anjali can recognise that woman. 

Anjali, that's Varun, said Neha

Varun? That's not Varun, thought Anjali

All she can see is a woman dressed in a saree, her hair is middle parted, her hands were filled with bangles, wore jhumkas to her ears and a nose stub to her nose. 

Anjali thought everyone is joking with her but when she saw their faces, she realised they are not joking. 

Anjali observed the woman standing before her closely and she realised it's none other than Varun. Tears rolled down her eyes and they both hugged each other. 

Anjali didn't care why her husband is dressed as a woman, she was just hapy to see him. 

Then Rekha and Neha went home to get freshen up and bring food to the hospital, while Rupa and Varun stayed in the hospital. 

Anjali couldn't stay awake for long and fell asleep. 

When she woke up, Rekha and Neha are in the room. 

Ok, Rekha. Me and Vani will go home and will be back in 2 hours, said Rupa

Both Varun and Rupa were leaving the room. Anjali knows Varun has long hair now but when Varun was walking out of the room, she saw how long his hair actually is, she was stunned. His braid is till his butt and has good volume as well. 

Who is Vani? Asked Anjali, even though she was thinking it might be Varun. 

Oh it's Varun. We can't call him Varun now, can we? We the way he is dressed ,Vani suits him better, said Neha

Yeah, but I still don't understand why Varun became Vani, said Anjali with confusion. 

Even though you were coma for 6 years, at the time of the your accident the chances of your survival was almost none. I still remember Varun crying that day. Even though he never believed in god, he went to a temple to pray for you. When a priest suggested a strange vow to him, Varun immediately agreed to follow it, said Neha

What is the vow? Asked Anjali

He should wear only woman clothes, shouldn't cut his hair and every friday, he has to pray for the goddess until you retain your conscious, said Neha

Anjali widened her eyes listening to it. 

You may find it odd but a person would do anything for his love. As soon as he agreed to follow the vow, you were out of danger and we all thought it's a miracle. But it took you 6 years to come out of the coma, said Neha

Anjali couldn't believe Varun did all these things for her. 

I don't know whether you thought about it or not but your mom is speaking to you again. After you married Varun against her will, she has stopped talking to you, said Neha

Anjali remembered it immediately. 

Oh yes, I totally forgot about it. I am happy Varun and my mom are speaking to each other, said Anjali with happiness. 

Just speaking to each other!!!!. Now they are almost like mother and daughter, said Neha with a laugh

Anjali also laughed listening to it. 

While Anjali, Neha and Rekha was chit chatting. 

Rupa and Varun just reached home. Varun wanted to wear pant and shirt, while seeing Anjali again. Rupa saw Varun thinking about something. 

Vani, what are thinking? Asked Rupa

I don't have any pant and shirts to wear. I am embarrassed to meet Anjali in a saree again, said Varun

Don't worry about it. I am sure Anjali will understand. Now don't over think it. Last week, we bought a saree right, wear it. First we will go to temple and then we can go to the hospital, said Rupa with a smile

Varun quickly took a bath and wore a new saree quickly. He is a expert now. He took a comb and started to brush his long hair. After he made sure there are no tangles. He middle parted his hair and started to braid it. 

After braiding his hair. He wore matching bangles and wore a matching bindi as well. 

Before leaving the room, he checked himself in the mirror, making sure everything is perfect. 

As he walked out of the room. Rupa was waiting for him. She was holding lot of flowers. 

Vani, turn around, said Rupa

Aunt, these are too many flowers, whined Varun

Nonsense, you should at least wear these many flowers for your long hair, said Rupa and pinned lot of flowers in his hair. 

Varun thought it's done and was turning around. 

Wait, sweetie. I will tie the blouse strings, said Rupa and started to tie it. 

This is the problem as a woman. Even though WE spent lot of time getting ready and making sure everything is perfect, something will be missed, thought Varun. 

On the way to the hospital they went to the temple and prayed for the god and the priest gave them flowers and turmeric paste. Both Rupa and Varun wore the flowers in their hair and applied turmaric to their cheeks. After eating prasad a little and they went to the hospital. 

When Varun entered the room, Anjali widened her eyes, he is looking so femenine . She noticed he is wearing lot of flowers and has turmaric paste on his cheeks. Neha and Rekha got used to it, so they didn't think anything odd. And took the prasad. 

Neha, Rupa and Rekha decided to leave Varun and Anjali alone for sometime. 

After they left, Varun sat on the bed after placing the saree pallu on his lap. Anjali was observing everything. Varun was walking , talking and behaving as a woman, thought Anjali

there are silence for a minute. 

I am sorry, said Varun

Vani, you no need to say sorry. I am very lucky to have you has my husband, said Anjali with love. 

Can you turn around? I have to see your braid, said Anjali with excitement

He turned around and Anjali took his braid in her hands. It's so long and has so much volume to it, thought. She also observed his blouse as well. 

I really like your blouse, said Anjali while moving her fingers on his back. 

Varun immediately turned back to face Anjali. 

Don't do that, said Varun and Anjali laughed listening to it. 

Tell me one thing, did you wear all my sarees? , asked Anjali

Yes,... Apart from your wedding saree. I have worn all your sarees. Sorry, said Varun with hesitation

Hey, don't ever say sorry to me. Now you can lend me your sarees, said Anjali with a smile

While they were talking, Rupa, Rekha and Neha entered the room. 

What are you both were talking about? Asked Rupa

Nothing much just woman talk, said Anjali

Oh, I thought Vani was telling you about her prince Charming, teased Neha

Varun glared at Neha angrily. 

Who? Asked Anjali with a surprise on her face

 6 months ago Vani got a marriage proposal from  guy, he is so so handsome and very rich. We told him Vani is actually a guy. But he said he already knows and wanted to marry Vani anyway, said Neha

Anjali looked at Varun with a smile. 

When we explained him about your situation. He understood and left, said Neha

Varun was so embarrassed. Anjali was laughing looking at him. 

Anjali to avoid these things. Soon you have to tie mangalsutra around his neck and make him a married woman and my daughter in law, said Rupa

Aunty, whined Varun

Once you become my daughter in law, I won't tolerate your whining, warned Rupa

Listening to it everyone laughed including Varun. 

Ok, mom. If that's what you want. I will do it, said Anjali looking at Varun. 

Varun lowered his head shyly. 

Within few days doctors declared Anjali is fine now and she can go home. 

When Anjali went home, she got to know her mom also started living with Varun and family. And Varun quite his software job and started a sarees business and it's doing good. 

She slowly understood the dynamics among Varun, Neha, Rupa and Rekha. They all are treating Varun as any other woman in the home and she never heard them calling him Varun, it's always Vani and Varun was ok with. 

Every day in the morning Varun gets ready in a saree and neatly braids his hair, he wear lots of flowers in her hair, before going to work. 

Anjali was mesmerized by how quickly and how good Varun was able to drape the saree. 

After weeks Anjali was totally fine. 

One fine morning, Varun was woken up Neha and Rekha. Varun doesn't know why they are in his room and he didn't see Anjali as well. 

Today you are getting married, lets make you a bride quickly, said both Neha and Rekha

Varun was little reluctant but he took the bath. Once he came out, he saw Anjali's wedding saree. 

Don't worry. Anjali told us to get you ready in this saree and all the jewelry as well, said Neha

After draping the silk saree, Rekha neatly braided his hair and filled lots of flowers and Neha was doing his nails. Then came the jewelry, he wore all the jewelry that Anjali wore on her wedding day. 

When Neha and Rekha are done. Varun was looking like a bride. He was feeling really shy. 

For the past 2 years, Rupa was telling him, as soon as Anjali comes out of coma, she will make him her daughter in law. 

As his mom and sister are escorting him outside his room, Varun was feeling really shy. He noticed Anjali sitting before the puja room and she was wearing shirt and dhoti. He sat beside Anjali shyly. 

They prayed for the god and Rupa handed a mangalsutra to Anjali. Anjali looked at Varun with a smile and he felt really shy. 

Rekha lifted his braid a little and Anjali tied the mangalsutra around his neck. Then she applied sindoor on his hair middle parted partion and toe rings to his toes. Just like that Varun became a married woman. They both took blessings from Rekha and Rupa. 

Rupa hugged and kissed on his forehead. 

I have been waiting for this moment, for you to become my daughter in law traditionally, said Rupa happily. 

At night it's time for first night. 

Neha, Rupa and Rekha decorated him perfectly for the night. 

Even though, he slept with Anjali multiple times before, he felt different today. 

He was handed a milk glass and pushed him into the room.
